It’s a tricky conundrum – does being more productive at work outweigh the benefits of spending more hours working? Or would you prefer a regular 9-5 with no after hours interruptions even if you were less productive? Well according to Kelly Services a massive 80 per cent of Australians says it’s the former and that mobile communications technology (such as smartphones) have improved their productivity and their work-life balance – even though a third also admit to now working longer hours. Other key findings from the study include:

  • 88 per cent say of respondents are ‘greatly attracted’ or ‘somewhat attracted’ by the option of telecommuting, working from home or working remotely.
  • 36 per cent are working longer hours due to new technologies.
  • Gen X are the most attracted to the idea of a more flexible approach to working
  • Gen Y are the most happy with their work-life balance, while baby boomers are the least.
