Despite the troubling state of the economy Boeing is feeling confident that its new cabin design will be taken on by most of its existing customers for its 737 short-haul airplane.

The new design is an enhanced version of the current design, now 40 years old. Passengers onboard can expect overhead luggage compartments that recess into the ceiling rather than fold down – allowing passengers to stand out of the aisle during boarding. For those who dislike the noise of flying the new aircraft will be four decibels quieter than current models, while it also promises to reduce carbon footprint by one per cent.

The new 737 will be taking to the skies from 2011 with FlyDubai the launch customer, followed by Continental Airlines, the TUI Group in Europe, Lion Air in Indonesia and Gol from Brazil.
