Job hunters take note… when it comes to finding a job it’s not what you know but who you know that could be your greatest asset. Research from Edinburgh Napier University, in the UK, has revealed that the more employed friends you have, the higher their job status and the stronger your ties with them the more likely you are to land a job yourself. The study into social networks and employment also found that people under 50 tended to have significantly higher numbers of contacts and more regular interaction within their social networks than their 50+ counterparts. But, workers over the age of 50 were most likely to rely on their smaller social networks in order to find work through ‘word of mouth’. So, if you’re thinking of moving jobs then it might be worth reconnecting with some of your friends and putting a bit more effort into socialising.
